A game-changer for small apartments: all you need is a single wall and a 2-meter corridor to start playing.

Darts is likely the most space-forgiving competitive sport in existence.

You don't need a court, a table, or even a dedicated room. A wall and a hallway just over two meters long are enough to set up an international-standard practice area. For urban players with limited living space, this isn't a compromise—it's a minimalist sporting aesthetic calculated down to the millimeter.

Standard Dimensions & Spacing

Throwing Distance: 2.37 m for steel-tip darts; 2.44 m for soft-tip darts.

Bullseye Height: 1.73 m from the floor.

Minimum Space Requirement: A footprint of 2.5 m (depth) × 1.5 m (width) is plenty for throwing and retrieving darts comfortably.

Mounting a Steel-Tip Dartboard

Solid walls are ideal; mount the bracket directly using expansion bolts.

Drywall / plasterboard partitions require an MDF backing board (thickness ≥ 12 mm, extending at least 60 cm beyond the board) to disperse impact and prevent dart tips from punching through the wall.

Ensure the 20-point segment is aligned directly at the top (12 o’clock).

Add an 8–10 cm rubber surround ring to catch stray darts and protect the wall, and pair it with a marked dart mat to lock in your stance and keep your distance consistent.

Alternative: Soft-Tip Electronic Dartboards

For casual entertainment and family use without wall damage or complicated setups, an electronic soft-tip board is a great alternative. They are lightweight, absorb minimal impact, and use plastic tips that won't ruin walls. You can mount them on a freestanding tripod stand, avoiding permanent wall fixtures entirely.

Key Safety & Practice Tips

Keep the board well away from windows and mirrors.

Maintain at least 1.8 meters of clear safety clearance on both sides of the throwing lane.

If you plan to compete, strictly practice at the standard 2.37 m mark (for steel-tip) to preserve consistent muscle memory. Space constraints are never a barrier to quality practice—as long as the standards stay precise.
